A Lassa fever outbreak in Ondo State has claimed 12 lives, with 112 confirmed cases out of 353 reported.
The state’s Acting Statistician-General, Olusola Ajayi, described the situation as alarming and called for urgent action to curb its spread. He urged the Waste Management Authority and health workers to intensify efforts in maintaining a clean environment.
Last week, the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Ministry of Health, Adeniran Ikuomola, revealed that nearly 400 suspected cases had been recorded since the outbreak. He assured residents that the government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and other health agencies, was working to improve diagnosis and treatment.
The NCDC recently confirmed 143 Lassa fever cases across seven states, with 22 deaths reported.
