An Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced a supervisor at the Hajj and Cargo terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, to one year in prison for financial misconduct.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) prosecuted the official for allegedly diverting funds under his supervision. The court heard that between February 2001 and April 2021, the official misappropriated N11,234,000 while making false financial returns.

Justice O.A. Fadipe found him guilty on two counts under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. The court sentenced him to one year in prison on each count, to run concurrently, with an option of a N1 million fine.

Additionally, he must sign a N2 million bond with the court registry to maintain good behaviour. Failure to comply could result in a further 10-year jail term.
