The senator representing Imo East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, has officially defected to the ruling All-Progressives Congress (APC). Onyewuchi was elected to the senate on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), but he cited “party crisis” as the reason for his defection.

The senate Majority Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, announced Onyewuchi’s defection during plenary on Tuesday, in a session witnessed by Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo state.

This defection means all senators from the south-east state are now members of the APC. Onyewuchi, shortly after his letter of defection was read, was escorted to take a seat at the APC section of the senate.

Also, in the green chamber, the member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu in the federal House of Representatives, Idris Salman, announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC.

The lawmaker officially announced his political decision in a letter read on the floor of the House on Tuesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.
