Kidnapped Catholic Priest Regains Freedom After 3 Weeks.

Reverend Father Mikah Suleiman, a Catholic Priest, who was abducted on June 22, 2024, from his residence in the Damba area of Gusau, has been released by his captors. The Clergy man who was abducted around 2am on the day regained his freedom after spending almost 3 weeks with his abductors.

His release was announced in a statement on Sunday, July 7, 2024, by the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Pascal Salifu. The statement said Father Suleiman is currently receiving necessary medical treatment.

The statement read, “We are overjoyed to announce the safe release of Fr Mikah Suleiman, who was kidnapped on 22/06/2024.

‘We extend our heartfelt gratitude to God for His protection and to everyone who offered prayers and support during this challenging time.

“Our thanks also go to the authorities and all involved in securing Fr Mikah’s release. He is currently receiving the necessary care and support.”

The statement urged people to “continue to keep him in your prayers as he begins his recovery.”

Also confirming the story, this time in a video, is the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Mathew Kukah. Bishop Kukah appeared in a video with the newly freed priest, with an introduction saying “surprise, surprise, I have with me a friend of mine, which I wish to introduce to you”. Father Suleiman thanked everyone instrumental in his release and urged support against kidnapping and banditry.
