A High Court in Nairobi has ruled that the arrest and extradition of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu by Nigerian agents in 2021 violated Kenyan laws and his fundamental rights.

Justice Chacha Mwita said Kanu, a British citizen, entered Kenya legally but was abducted, detained, and flown out without any legal process. The court ordered the Kenyan government to pay him 10 million shillings (₦119.2 million) in compensation.

Following the ruling, Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on President Tinubu to release Kanu, saying his continued detention undermines justice and Nigeria’s global image.
