The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to sponsor a mass wedding for 300 couples on February 27, 2025.
Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, Chairman of the Organising Committee, revealed that the initiative is in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).
The government has approved N54 million for the event, allocating N180,000 as dowry for each bride across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas. Additional provisions, including room furniture and foodstuffs, will be supplied to support the newlyweds.
Various committees have been established to conduct necessary health screenings, such as pregnancy tests, genotype assessments, and HIV/AIDS tests, ensuring all lawful prerequisites for marriage are fulfilled.
This initiative aligns with Governor Nasir Idris’s commitment to periodically assist less privileged individuals in formalizing their unions.
