At least 13 people were killed in Birnin Dede, Arewa LGA of Kebbi State, in a reprisal attack by the Lakurawa group following the killing of their leader, Maigemu, by security forces. The attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed multiple villages, burning homes and shooting indiscriminately.
Local officials confirmed the assault, with the police stating that additional tactical teams had been deployed to restore order. Several injured victims are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi.
Meanwhile, a similar attack in Akure-North, Ondo State, left at least 14 dead, with gunmen raiding four farming communities at midnight. Authorities have promised swift action against the perpetrators as insecurity worsens.
