A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a popular TikTok personality, Abubakar Ibrahim, better known as G-Fresh, to five months in prison for abusing the Naira.
Justice Sale Musa Shuaibu delivered the judgement on Thursday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the content creator. Upon hearing the charges, G-Fresh pleaded guilty.
The court sentenced him to five months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.
The case against him followed a viral video showing the TikToker spraying bundles of ₦1,000 notes during a shop opening event hosted by fellow TikTok personality Rahama Sa’idu in the Tarauni area of Kano last year.
G-Fresh, who commands over 1.5 million followers on TikTok, is known for his rap-style videos and comic skits, often laced with humour and street-smart commentary that appeal to younger audiences.
The EFCC has recently stepped up efforts to enforce laws against Naira abuse, warning that spraying or mutilating currency notes at parties and public functions is a punishable offence under Nigerian law.
