Kano Raises Minimum Pension to N20,000

Kano State has increased its minimum pension from N5,000 to N20,000. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made the announcement during the Nigeria Union of Pensioners’ delegates conference in Kano.

He said over N16 billion in pension arrears had been cleared in under two years. The government also introduced reforms, including prompt payments and resolving long-standing pension property issues.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago also attended the event, pledging similar reforms and announcing plans to set up “NUP Farms” to empower retirees. Both Kano and Niger States donated N100 million each to support the conference.
