The Kano State Government has directed all 44 LGAs to contribute a total of N670 million for the purchase and refurbishment of vehicles for Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, sparking public backlash.
Each LGA will pay N15.2 million from joint state-local government funds to a private company for the supply of four new vehicles and repair of two vintage cars, including a 1969 Rolls Royce.
Critics say the move is insensitive amid economic hardship, while the state insists it’s a routine administrative decision with past precedent.
