The Kano State Government has discovered 240 employees receiving double salaries and 217 others operating under the same Bank Verification Number (BVN).

Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, said the findings followed a biometric verification of state and local government workers.

He said the exercise exposed serious payroll irregularities inherited by the current administration. “We found 240 workers drawing double salaries and 217 sharing BVNs, suggesting ghost workers or identity issues,” he said.

Sani added that 1,335 workers had failed to show up for verification for over six months, raising further concerns.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Local Government Standing Committee, Alhaji Umar Idi, said 247 suspicious names, including deceased and retired staff, were found on local government and healthcare payrolls. Only eight verified their status, while the others were removed, saving the government nearly N28 million monthly.

Sani said the aim of the cleanup is to protect genuine workers and ensure regular, full salary payments.
