The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has commenced the payment of N61,080 each to the 6,239 pilgrims who performed Hajj through the state in 2023.

The refunds, facilitated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), are compensation for inconveniences caused by a power outage during the pilgrims’ stay in Muna. The disruption affected cooling systems, resulting in discomfort for the pilgrims.

In a statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Yunusa Mohammed Abdullahi, it was clarified that the refunds will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the verified pilgrims. “We are committed to ensuring that only eligible pilgrims with proper documentation receive these payments,” said the Executive Chairman of the agency, Malam Salihu S. Abubakar, during a meeting with Local Government Pilgrims Registration Officers on Tuesday.

The agency has urged pilgrims who have not yet submitted their details to promptly approach their respective Local Government Registration Officers for verification. The required details include passports and valid bank account information to facilitate the refund process.

Highlighting the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Malam Abubakar stated that direct bank transfers would be employed to eliminate any discrepancies or fraudulent practices. He also instructed the Registration Officers to ensure strict compliance with the documentation requirements.

The refund initiative underscores Kaduna State’s dedication to addressing the welfare of its pilgrims and ensuring that their concerns are resolved effectively.
