The Kaduna State Police Command has banned a planned rally by supporters of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, scheduled in honour of his birthday.
Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said intelligence reports suggested the event could be hijacked by troublemakers. He explained that the rally clashed with political party primaries happening the same day, raising fears of tension and possible violence.
The police stressed that political rallies remain suspended across the state until INEC’s official campaign window begins. Organisers were advised to shelve the event or celebrate their leader in a peaceful, non-disruptive manner.
The Command warned that anyone who flouts the directive risks legal action and urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to maintain public order.
