Jigawa: Fulani Communities to Benefit from New Milk Collection Centre

Fulani communities in Ringim and Taura Local Government Areas of Jigawa State are set to benefit from a milk collection centre established by L & Z Integrated Farms Nigeria Limited in collaboration with the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN).

The initiative, under the Community Milk Aggregation and Empowerment Initiative and the Milk Aggregation and Logistics Development Project (MALDEP), aims to boost economic development in these communities. The centre, located in Riniyal, Ringim, will serve as a hub for Fulani herders, facilitating milk collection and improving livelihoods.

Muhammadu Murtala Abubakar, representing the chairman of Ringim Local Government, emphasized its potential, stating, “It will help our people, especially the Fulani. Riniyal produces significant milk volumes, with up to 3,000 litres available daily for sale.”

Abimbola Daniyan, CODARAN’s national secretary, explained that the project seeks to elevate the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. “We aim to modernize their practices and provide financial benefits,” he said. Dianabasi Akpainyang, CODARAN’s executive director, highlighted plans for training on hygienic milk collection and feed production to enhance productivity and ensure quality.

The coordinator for Strategic Partnerships at L & Z Integrated Farms, Aisha Muhammad Abdullahi, shared the company’s longstanding commitment to milk aggregation, noting its positive impact on women’s independence and community development. The initiative includes infrastructure support, such as milk cans and motorcycles for transportation.

Community representatives, including Miyetti Allah’s secretary Adamu Abdullahi, praised the project for its potential to transform the livelihoods of Fulani families in Jigawa State. The milk collection centre is expected to be operational by mid-2025, bringing modernization and economic growth to the dairy sector in the region.
