Iran, Israel trade strikes despite Trump-announced ceasefire

Iran’s armed forces say Israel launched three waves of strikes into Iranian territory on Tuesday morning—despite a ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Iran said the attacks continued until 9:00am local time, though Israel has not officially responded to the claim.

Before the truce took effect, an Iranian missile struck a residential building in Israel’s Beersheba city, killing at least four people. The IDF said it intercepted several missiles and vowed to respond forcefully.

Iran denied violating the truce, insisting its operations ended before the ceasefire began.

The 24-hour ceasefire deal, announced by Trump on Monday, was billed as a step towards ending nearly two weeks of heavy fighting. But renewed violence has raised doubts about its effectiveness.

Qatar and several world leaders have urged both countries to honour the truce.
