Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following a disagreement that arose during the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.
In a video circulating on social media, Elliot was seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness, while also expressing his desire to be reintegrated into the APC in Lagos.
In the video, Elliot acknowledged his actions and apologised to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” he said.
The apology comes months after a disagreement between Elliot and members of the APC leadership over the party’s primary election for the Surulere Constituency I seat.
Elliot had participated in the primary but subsequently withdrew from the exercise, citing what he described as intimidation and political pressure against his supporters.
Following his withdrawal, the lawmaker rejected the outcome of the exercise and indicated that he would challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.
The APC primary was eventually won by Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who emerged with 11,385 votes, while Elliot recorded 270 votes.
Odunuga-Bakare subsequently emerged as the party’s candidate for the Surulere Constituency I seat.
The latest development indicates an attempt by Elliot to mend fences with Gbajabiamila and re-establish his relationship with the APC leadership in Lagos.
Elliot has represented Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly and is a former member of the Lagos State chapter of the APC.
