The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn the invitation earlier issued to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II over a violent incident during Sallah celebrations in Kano on March 30.
Sanusi was initially summoned to explain the horseback procession he led after Eid prayers, which police said violated a prior agreement and sparked clashes that left one person dead and several injured.
However, following the intervention of stakeholders, the IGP directed that Sanusi’s statement be taken discreetly in Kano, to avoid escalating tensions.
