Five (5) people are confirmed dead with several others injured after suspected herdsmen reportedly attacked Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state.

The names of the deceased were given as Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

Residents say the suspected herders attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community, killing four (4) people instantly, causing people to scamper for safety.

A viral video on social media on Monday morning purportedly taken in the community showed a deserted community with some dead body lying lifeless in their pool of blood and some chairs and tables could be seen scattered in the compound where the mourners had gathered.

A source told newsmen “The herders are still coming into Uzo-Uwani with their trailer loads of cattle, I don’t know who is giving them the morale. They have even started destroying farms with their animals. I don’t know what Uzo-Uwani people have done to deserve these inhuman treatments,”

Although the police are yet to issue any statement on the incident, villagers identified five bodies as victims of the dastardly act.

Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani local government area came into the limelight in 2016 for similar incidents when headers attacked the community, killing scores and sacking the entire village.
