Two truck drivers were shot dead and their vehicle set ablaze by suspected IPOB members at Ogi Junction, Okigwe LGA of Imo State on Saturday.
According to NURTW officials in Imo, the attackers blocked the road, killed the drivers, and set the gari-loaded truck—and their bodies—on fire.
Okigwe NURTW chairman, Dahiru Musa, said he alerted the police and army, and the bodies were later evacuated and buried on Monday.
The drivers, identified as Haruna Muhammad and Adamu Ibrahim, were headed to Port Harcourt when the attack happened.
“This keeps happening. Northern drivers are no longer safe in the South East,” said Mahmud Jafaru, spokesman of NURTW Heavy Truck Unit in Jos.
The Imo State police spokesperson has yet to comment on the incident.
