Suspected armed robbers have stormed Rhythm 94.7FM in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, during a live broadcast, carting away phones, recorders, and other equipment.
The attackers reportedly broke into the station, located in Swali community, around 4:40pm on Saturday and returned the following day. Although no one was injured, staff members on duty were left shaken.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bayelsa condemned the incident, calling it an attack on press freedom. In a joint statement, NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, and Secretary, Comrade Stanley Imgbi, urged security agencies to swiftly arrest those behind the raid.
They also appealed to the police to deploy a patrol team to the area, citing the station’s isolated location as a security concern.
