Guinness World Record Holder to Face 12-Year-Old Chess Prodigy.

Nigerian Professional Chess player and coach, Tunde Onakoya is set to face 12-year-old Nigerian Chess prodigy, Deborah Quickpen in a 3-hour chess match on the 11th of June 2024.

It is an open secret that Sports fans are always filled with a wave of thrilling anticipation whenever a promising young player makes a breakthrough. Well, Deborah Quickpen, a captivating young player who has been dubbed the future of chess in Nigeria, is the talk of the town for chess enthusiasts. Her meteoric rise began when she represented Bayelsa State at the National Sports Festival in 2018 where she became the youngest athlete in the history of the festival. She won a gold medal at Edo 2021 National Sport Festival to become youngest athlete and Chess player ever in the history of the festival at age 10 to win a gold medal.

Being the highest-ranking under-12 chess player in Africa, Tunde Onakoya expects a fierce contest. He said “I have faced many tough opponents, but this will undoubtedly be my hardest match yet. I can categorically say that she is the future of chess in Nigeria”

The epic match is put together by Daniel Ford International as part of Deborah’s preparations ahead of the FIDE chess World Cup scheduled to hold in Georgia by July 2024 where she is set to represent Nigeria.
