FRSC to Acquire Helicopters for Patrol

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to acquire helicopters for patrols through a public-private partnership. Speaking at an Ember Months briefing in Abuja, Deputy Corps Marshal Clement Oladele explained that the initiative, previously long-term, is now actively being prepared. Plans are also underway to incorporate air ambulances and drones to support FRSC patrol efforts.

Between January and September 2024, 3,767 lives were lost in 7,011 road accidents, while 22,373 were injured. FRSC aims to address this through advanced resources and training, as well as driver education, particularly emphasizing abstinence from alcohol. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed noted road accidents are the seventh leading cause of death globally and the top cause of death among African youth. To reduce risks, the government is collaborating with the Ministry of Works to repair road conditions before the festive season.
