Recently freed participants of the August 2024 #EndBadGovernance protest in Kaduna have refuted allegations of mistreatment during their detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The released individuals, mainly DJs providing entertainment at the protest, spoke to reporters, clarifying they experienced fair treatment while in DSS custody. DJ Zariya, one of the detainees, noted there was no torture or starvation during their detention, adding they were freed unconditionally in October after a case review by the new DSS Director General.
He explained he had been misinformed by organizers who falsely claimed to have security clearance for the protest. DJ SP also affirmed humane treatment and said he was allowed to maintain contact with his wife.
Khaleed, who had coordinated the protest, was similarly released after the Director General dismissed all charges against him.
The group expressed gratitude to the DSS for their release and emphasized the importance of addressing issues affecting Nigeria’s youth, including job creation and transparency.
