Four people have reportedly been shot dead in Rimin Auzinawa, Ungogo LGA of Kano State during a clash between residents and security operatives over the demolition of buildings.
The structures, allegedly built on Bayero University, Kano (BUK) land, had been marked for demolition by the Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA). However, residents claimed KNUPDA previously cleared them, insisting the land was not within BUK’s boundaries.
Tensions escalated when officials arrived late Sunday night with security personnel. Witnesses said resistance from locals led to gunfire, leaving four people dead.
KNUPDA has yet to officially respond, while a senior director claimed the demolition was carried out by a task force from the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning. An official from the ministry confirmed the land belongs to BUK and assured that a government statement would follow.
