Flooded Taraba Road Leaves Travellers Stranded as Bridge Collapses

Many travellers were left stranded on Wednesday after heavy rainfall washed away the alternative bridge at Namne, along the Jalingo-Wukari road in Gassol LGA of Taraba State.

The self-help bridge, built by the community after the main bridge collapsed seven months ago, had been the only route for motorists. Although Governor Agbu Kefas awarded a contract for its reconstruction last month, work has yet to commence.

With the bridge gone, travellers were forced to take a longer detour through Garba-Chede in Bali LGA. Stranded motorists expressed frustration, blaming the delay in reconstruction for their predicament. Truck driver Bello Adamu noted that had the government acted earlier, the situation could have been avoided.
