Five people are feared dead, and several others injured after a severe gun duel between security operatives and suspected gunmen in Anambra, on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.
The incident reportedly took place when the Anambra joint security force stormed two camps of the alleged gunmen in Agulu-Ezechukwu, Aguata council area and Ogboji, Orumba south council area respectively.
During the raid by the security operatives, items like a locally fabricated rocket launcher, suspected charms and police uniforms were recovered, amongst others.
The Anambra police command spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, did not disclose the casualty figures but reports out of the state suggest that four gunmen and a police operative may have been killed during the shootout.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the police command headquarters in Awka, the state capital on Wednesday, April 3rd, explained the hunt for the gunmen have been extended to Obofia forest, Aguluezechukwu and Ogboji areas, confirming parts of the report.
More clarity is expected in the coming days.
