At least five people have died and 15 others injured following an early morning explosion in Kano on Saturday.
The blast, which occurred near a mechanic workshop, is suspected to have been caused by a military mortar bomb. Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who visited the scene, said the device may have been part of a shipment coming from Yobe State.
He said emergency responders evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are yet to confirm who owned or transported the explosive.
Bakori urged residents to remain calm as security agencies work to determine the exact cause of the blast.
