A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira at Ladipo Market in Lagos, with another inferno also reported at Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road.
According to reports, the fires started in the early hours of the day, engulfing warehouses and shops stocked with vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, mechanical tools, and household appliances.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incidents, stating that distress calls were received around 12:09 a.m. via emergency lines 767 and 112.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, assured that while no lives were lost, businesses suffered significant losses, including electronics, generators, bicycles, phones, and auto spare parts.
He added that affected shop owners have been sensitized on fire safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
