A fire outbreak has occurred on a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, following a late-night explosion on Monday.
The incident happened near the ongoing Bodo-Bonny Road construction project, sending thick black smoke into the sky as flames rapidly spread through the mangrove. A video circulating on Tuesday morning captured the intensity of the blaze.
It is unclear whether the explosion is linked to recent threats by militants targeting oil installations over the state’s political crisis. The TNP is a crucial federal pipeline that transports crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal.
Rivers State Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko stated that she was looking into the situation but had yet to provide further details at the time of this report.
