A tragic airstrike meant to target the Lakurawa terrorist group mistakenly bombed two communities in Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State, on Wednesday morning.
The affected villages, Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa, are near the Surame Forest, a known hideout for bandits and terrorists. Witnesses reported that over ten villagers were killed, with several others injured.
The chairman of Silame LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, confirmed the incident, describing the victims as innocent and peace-loving individuals. He stated that the extent of the damage was still being assessed.
When contacted, the Sokoto State Police Command declined to comment, noting the operation did not fall under their jurisdiction.
