FG to Build 150 New CNG Stations in 18 Months

The Presidential CNG Initiative says over 150 new gas refueling stations will be set up across Nigeria within the next 18 months.

Chief Executive of the initiative, Michael Oluwagbemi, announced this at the Presidential Villa on Monday, saying the project is in partnership with private sector players like NNPCL, NIPCO, BOVAS, and AY Shafa.

He said NNPCL has already completed 12 stations, with 8 more coming this quarter. NIPCO has 22 in use and 8 under construction, while other players are also investing in both mother and daughter stations.

Oluwagbemi also addressed last year’s CNG vehicle explosion in Benin, blaming it on illegal cylinder fabricators who have been arrested. He said a new vehicle monitoring system (NGVMS) will be launched by year-end to prevent such incidents.

“We’re prioritizing safety and ensuring everyone complies with the regulations,” he added.
