FG Shares 20 Trucks of Rice Each to State Governors.

The federal government has revealed it distributed 20 trucks of rice to each state governor in the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This move, according to the minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, is the first step the government is taking to address the lingering food crisis in the country.

“This is the first action the government is taking to alleviate the nation’s food crisis,” Idris said, while addressing newsmen shortly after the Federal Executive council (FEC) with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Food inflation continue to rise, according to the latest numbers released by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS). “On a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in June 2024 was 2.55% which shows a 0.26% increase compared to the rate recorded in May 2024 (2.28%),” the NBS report read.

The minister of information also reeled out other initiatives of the government including unveiling new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus conversion stations.

“The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has asked the Presidential Committee on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to expedite action to cushion the suffering of Nigerians, especially in the transportation sector”. The Minister noted.
