Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, says the Federal Government aims to grow the digital economy’s share of Nigeria’s GDP to 21%.
Speaking in Abeokuta at a reception by his alma mater, Tijani noted the sector currently contributes 16–18% to GDP and said the new target would drive job creation and youth empowerment.
He also revealed plans to expand internet access through 90,000km of fibre optic cables nationwide and launch code clubs in schools to equip students with tech skills.
Tijani announced a yearly fellowship for outstanding students in his former school, offering ₦100,000, school kits, and laptops, and pledged to renovate a school building.
