FG renames Kaduna Institute after Shehu Yar’Adua

President Bola Tinubu has announced the renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.

The President said the decision was taken to honour the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and transition to civilian rule.

Tinubu made the announcement on Friday during his Democracy Day address, where he paid tribute to individuals who played significant roles in shaping the country’s democratic journey.

According to the President, Yar’Adua remains one of the key figures in the evolution of modern democratic Nigeria and deserves national recognition for his vision and commitment to national unity.

“Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership,” Tinubu said.

He added: “In recognition of his contributions, the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.”

The renaming, the President noted, forms part of efforts by the Federal Government to recognise and preserve the legacies of individuals who contributed to Nigeria’s democratic progress.

Tinubu also used the occasion to announce national honours for more than 30 democracy activists and soldier-democrats who participated in the June 12 struggle.

Among those to be honoured posthumously are Dr Arthur Nwankwo and Ben Charles-Obi.

The President said the full list of recipients of the national honours would be released in the coming days.
