FG Launches Free AI Academy to Boost Digital Skills

The Federal Government has unveiled a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy to empower Nigerians with cutting-edge skills and position the country as a leader in the global digital economy.

Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, inaugurated the academy in Abuja, announcing its launch in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation. The programme is open to all Nigerians, including students, youths, and civil servants, with registration set to close on January 30, 2025.

“This initiative is a game-changer. It’s an opportunity for Nigerians to acquire critical AI skills and contribute to shaping the nation’s future,” Nnaji said, encouraging citizens to register via the official website: scienceandtech.gov.ng/academy.

The academy will offer flexible, self-paced courses on AI fundamentals, ethics, tools, and real-world applications. Participants will also have the chance to compete for prestigious AI ambassador roles, internships with Intel Corporation, and hands-on experience in global AI projects.

Chief Nnaji emphasized the transformative potential of AI in addressing Nigeria’s unique challenges, such as improving agriculture, healthcare, education, and security. He described the academy as a pipeline for developing innovators and leaders equipped to tackle the country’s pressing issues and drive economic progress.

“AI is no longer a concept of the future; it is here, reshaping industries and unlocking new economic opportunities. By equipping Nigerians with these skills, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more competitive nation,” the minister added.
