The Federal Government has kicked off free emergency treatment at Dala Orthopaedic Hospital, Kano, under the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS).

Patients involved in accidents, obstetric emergencies, or other critical situations will receive 48 hours of treatment at no cost, said the hospital’s CMD, Dr. Nurudeen Isa.

“This is about saving lives. Emergency cases will be picked up by ambulance and treated immediately, regardless of their ability to pay,” he said.

The programme is fully funded from 1% of Nigeria’s consolidated revenue, as provided by the National Health Act. Dala is the first accredited facility in Kano under the scheme.

Dr. Emuren Doubra, speaking for NEMSAS, said the goal is simple: “No Nigerian should die because they can’t pay during an emergency.”
