Striking primary school teachers and local government workers in the FCT say they won’t resume work until their salary arrears are paid.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) made this known during meetings with the six area council chairmen in Abuja.

A union official told Trust TV that the councils asked for the strike to be suspended to allow negotiations, but the unions insisted on payment first.

They also called for the implementation of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s directive to use 10% of the FCT IGR to clear outstanding entitlements, starting with over ₦16 billion in unpaid arrears.
