FCT health centres shut as strike bites, patients stranded

Patients in Abuja’s six area councils are stranded as primary health centres remain shut due to an ongoing workers’ strike.

The strike, led by NULGE and NUT, is over the non-implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage. Nursing mothers and pregnant women say they’ve had to return home untreated, with clinics in Abaji, Kwali, and Gwagwalada under lock and key.

Despite efforts by FCT Ministers Nyesom Wike and Maryam Mahmud, talks with the council chairmen have failed.

A protest is now set for Thursday, April 24, as workers vow to keep pushing until their demands are met.
