Farmer-Herder Clash: 2 Dead, Properties Destroyed in Fresh Clash in Niger.

At least two people, a herder and a farmer, were reportedly killed on Thursday in a violent clash between suspected herdsmen and farmers in Kadna village, Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

Several properties, including houses, goats as well as food stuffs and other valuables belonging to farmers were also burnt down. Dozens of farmers in Kadna village have also reported to have fled their homes to Gwada and neighboring villages for fear of reprisal by herders.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the deadly clash saying “The clash started in the morning on Thursday when a suspected Fulani herder encroached on a farm leading to the clash. The Gbagyi man was beheaded and on reprisal, Gbagyi farmers mobilised and killed one of the herders. After that, herders mobilised and razed Kadna village, burning houses, killing even goats. Currently, people of Kadna have fled for fear of reprisal.”

The spokesperson of the Niger state police command’s public relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, is yet to comment on the incident.
