The family of Mr. Segun Olatunji, the abducted editor of “FirstNews”, has made a heartfelt plea for his release, citing his health condition as a matter of urgent concern.

Mr. Olatunji, a former Kaduna state correspondent of the Punch newspaper, was reportedly taken from his Lagos home in Iyana Odo, Abule Egba area, by 10 armed individuals last Friday, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

In an interview, his wife, Mrs. Oluwatosin Olatunji, revealed that her husband suffers from an ulcer and is asthmatic.

Describing him as a dedicated and tranquil journalist, she expressed deep distress over his disappearance, emphasizing his non-confrontational nature and commitment to work. Mrs. Olatunji, a mother of five, implored the government and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene urgently, stressing the imperative of bringing her husband back safely considering his health challenges.

Echoing the family’s plea, the Nigeria union of journalists has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Olatunji, underscoring the importance of protecting journalists and ensuring their safety as they carry out their duties. The union’s stance reflects the broader concern within the journalistic community over the safety and well-being of its members, particularly in the face of such distressing incidents.
