Vice-President Kashim Shettima has revealed that the recent #EndBadGovernance protests across Nigeria resulted in losses exceeding N300 billion, primarily affecting private property and businesses.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while welcoming the release of minors involved in the protests—ordered by President Bola Tinubu—Shettima highlighted the extent of damage, noting that despite clear evidence of involvement captured in digital and photographic media, the president’s intervention demonstrated his compassionate leadership.
“Despite irrefutable digital video and photographic evidence, some even uploaded by the participants themselves, the president, as a father of the nation, chose to offer these young people a second chance to grow into responsible citizens who can positively impact Nigeria,” Shettima stated.
He advised the youth to avoid engaging in destructive activities, emphasizing the substantial economic damage caused, with losses concentrated in private property and disrupted business operations.
Shettima further urged governors and public officeholders to support the minors’ rehabilitation and reintegration into society. “I call on our governors and representatives to work together, beyond political divisions, to ensure these young individuals are reintegrated as productive members of our communities,” he added.
