Three minors in Borno State, detained over their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest, are reportedly still in custody, despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent directive for their immediate release. While similar detainees in Abuja have been freed, the minors in Borno remain in a juvenile facility following a court order.
The minors’ lawyer, Barrister Yakubu Alhaji Adamu, confirmed their ongoing detention, stating that they are being held under the remand orders issued by Justice Aisha Mohammed Ali of State High Court 10 in Maiduguri. The minors, who pled not guilty, have had their next hearing set for November 18, 2024.
Salamtu Idrisa, from the Public Prosecutions Office of the Borno State Ministry of Justice, noted that her office has yet to receive formal instructions for the minors’ release, adding that any updates would be communicated as they come in.
