Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that he left the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the consent of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai said he personally informed Buhari of his decision before joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP). “I visited him on a Friday and told him about my plan. I always consult him on important matters,” he stated.
He also recalled seeking Buhari’s approval for his commissioner-nominees as governor, emphasizing their close political relationship.
On whether he regrets supporting President Bola Tinubu, El-Rufai said he was surprised by some developments but stood by his decision, citing fairness and justice in power distribution.
