The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced it set up an investigative panel to probe the activities of some of its officials who were caught on tape physically assaulting the staff of a hotel they were conducting a sting operation in.
A spokesman for the commission, Dele Oyewale, made the announcement in a statement and added that the erring officials have been scheduled to make an appearance before the panel.
Mr. Oyewale said the chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, gave the directive to look into the conduct of the officials. “Olukoyede ordered the arrest of the two officers and has directed them to appear before a joint Disciplinary Team comprising the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee, APDC and the Department of Ethics and Integrity. “They are billed to appear before the Team on Monday July 1, at the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission, Abuja.
“The team would look into the case of the officers and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken against them,” the statement read.
The statement also added that the chairman “stressed that no stone will be left unturned in getting the officers to account for their unprofessional conduct.”
Recall that a video went viral on social that appeared to show 5 officials of the EFCC barging into a room, where staff of the hotel they raided stayed, the video further showed one of the officials kicking and slapping a woman who appeared to be a staff of the hotel while another officer carted away with valuable items stored in the room.
