The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, says 18 sitting governors are under investigation.
He made the revelation during a public sensitisation event in Lagos on naira abuse. Olukoyede said although the probes have begun, actions would be taken once the governors complete their tenures.
He also narrated how a former governor, under probe, fled to the UK the day after leaving office and was arrested for spraying pounds at a hotel party.
Olukoyede said the hotel manager, shocked by the display, called the police, thinking the ex-governor was mentally unwell. He was only released after fellow Nigerian officials intervened.
