Nigeria’s 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) collected a total of N1.1 trillion as revenue between January and June 2025, according to data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The report shows that out of the N1.49 trillion worth of electricity billed to customers, only N1.10 trillion was paid, leaving an outstanding debt of N385.43 billion.
Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) recorded the highest revenue, collecting N207.14bn from N244.08bn billed. Ikeja Electric followed with N193.46bn, while Abuja DisCo earned N176.81bn. At the lower end, Yola DisCo (YEDC) collected N17.49bn from N30.51bn billed.
Monthly collections peaked in May at N188.46bn, followed closely by February with N188.3bn.
Meanwhile, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) announced plans to boost supply in Jigawa State. Its core investor, Future Energies Africa, through Bagaja Renewables Ltd, has completed a 500kWp solar-hybrid mini-grid in Kafin Hausa with a 10MW output capacity.
KEDCO said the plant will power several transformers across the township and is part of a broader partnership with the Jigawa State Government to expand electricity access. Another 1MW mini-grid project is also set to begin soon in Hadejia.
