The Kaduna State Ministry of Health has confirmed an outbreak of diarrhoea at Government Girls Secondary School, Kawo, affecting 81 students.

According to the state epidemiologist, Jeremiah Diako, the students—mostly aged between 16 and 17—fell ill earlier this week. Fifteen of them were taken to the General Hospital in Kawo for treatment and have since been discharged.

Following an investigation by the state’s Rapid Response Team, the ministry has outlined preventive steps, including better disease reporting, improved waste management, and food safety training for school staff.

Authorities say the measures are aimed at preventing future outbreaks and protecting the health of students in the state.
