Demolition Will Continue, Says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing demolition of illegal structures and the enforcement of ground rent policies, dismissing criticisms as mere distractions.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the demolition exercise is essential for restoring order and ensuring compliance with the city’s master plan. He urged critics to focus on the long-term benefits rather than immediate inconveniences.

“People must complain, but I can tell you such complaints cannot distract us. I am very focused, and since it is part of our job, we will continue to do what is necessary,” the minister said.

Wike reiterated that the exercise targets shanties and illegal constructions, with no exemptions. “Forget about what people say about demolition. Demolition must go ahead. We demolish shanties, we demolish illegal buildings. It doesn’t matter what anybody will say,” he asserted.

He expressed confidence that the public would ultimately appreciate the efforts, despite initial opposition. “At the end of the day, they will still come back to say, ‘you did a good job,’” Wike added.

Encouraging his team to remain steadfast, Wike stated, “Don’t bother about what people say; be focused. At the end of the day, you will achieve results for a greater number of people, not for a few individuals.”

The minister’s remarks underscore his administration’s determination to prioritize the collective good and ensure that Abuja remains a model city of compliance and order.
