A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that court papers challenging the emergency rule in Rivers State be served on President Bola Tinubu, retired Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Justice James Omotosho gave the order on Monday and adjourned the matter to May 21.

Three Rivers indigenes are asking the court to nullify Ibas’ appointment as sole administrator and restrain him from acting in that capacity. They also want the court to stop the president from treating the deputy governor and lawmakers as suspended.

Their lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), said the matter affects the constitutional right of Rivers people to an elected government.
