Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of ₦11.14Billion Properties Linked to Emefiele.

A federal high court sitting in Lagos granted an order seeking the interim forfeiture of some properties valued at ₦11.14 billion linked to the embattled former central bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele.

Granting the order on Wednesday, the presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, ordered the EFCC to publish the order in the newspaper for any interested party to show cause why the final order of forfeiture should not be made.

Counsel to the economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), had informed the court that Emefiele was suspected of having bought the choice properties, located in highbrow parts of the federal capital territory, Abuja by proxy, with the proceeds of fraud. He also said the anti-graft agency identified a former CBN staff member and two current employees of the bank as Emefiele’s accomplices in the alleged fraud.

The judge then adjourned till the 21st of June for the hearing of the motion for final forfeiture.
